Pre-Production

And how I used the technology

Online

Online technologies can now be used at our advantage because of how advanced they are nowadays. For example:

  • Zoom and Snapchat - when needing to communicate with my group when we were not in person, we had zoom calls and texted each other on snapchat to make sure we all understood what each other were doing for planning

  • Email (outlook) - I used email to get in touch with the actors we wanted for our sequence (Mike, Hugo and James) as well as emailing them with information about the sequence, such as costumes and location

  • Netflix - when trying to find ideas for our sequence, we looked at Netflix in the horror genre and documentaries about serial killers, so we could then understand what would make our opening sequence effective

What I enjoyed using the most

The camera and editing workshops I really enjoyed because, not only did it give us an idea of how to use them for the sequence making it a lot easier, but we also had a lot of creative freedom and it was just a fun experience to work with them and get used to it before the pressure was on for filming the sequence and getting it right in our eyes.

Hardware

For pre production you obviously need a lot of equipment for preparation for filming, for example:

  • MacBook - used for making notes and writing up what we need and all preparation notes for the shoot day, also used to write up on blogger. I used it also for communicating with my team and for zoom when we couldn't communicate in person.

  • camera and tripod - we had two camera workshops to get used to the camera and so we knew how they worked so the shoot day was easier and we did not need to learn how to use them.

Software

software was very important for pre production as different programs help create the idea for our sequence and help us understand how it will all fall into place, for example:

  • Premiere Pro - we experimented with premiere pro during our editing workshops so we could get used to the format for afterwards, however we did not go into as much detail with it as we did when editing our final sequence.

  • PowerPoint - when pitching our ideas we and coming up with ideas I used powerpoint to compare our different ideas.
